Poetry & Flowers
The theme for this year's yearbook is Poetry and Flowers. Flowers have inspired poets for centruies and to remind us of this we have sprinkled the yearbook with selections from peoems referring to flowers in general or to a specific bloom.
We have tried to avoid the most familiar verses about flowers and instead have chosen lesser-known quotations by a variety of writers. Some selections are by major peoets (Dickinson, Wordsworth, Tennyson, Neruda) and others are by writers we know primarily for other literary forms (Dorothy Parker, Ibsen, Stevenson).
As usual, the cover art by BGC member Pam Allen reminds us of some the flowers mentioned in the quotations.
We hope these snippets will inspire you to read (or write!) some poetry in your garden.
Oh! To be a flower
Nodding in the sun,
Bending, then upspringing
As the breezes run;
Holding up
A scentbrimmed cup,
Full of summer's fragance to the summer sun.
From Song by Amy Lowell
