Memorial Garden
AFB Dover Delaware
Submitted By Wendy Cote ~ GCFM Civic Development Chairman
The Delaware Federation of Garden Clubs is constructing a Memorial Garden at the Air Force Base in Dover, Delaware. Most people have heard of the sad, heartbreaking task this particular base handles each day of receiving the bodies of service personnel killed while on duty. In January, the base opened a special building called, "Center for Families of the Fallen" which is used by the families while in Dover for the dignified ceremony of receiving the remains of their loved ones. The outside of the building desperately needs an enclosed garden area, screened from the road to afford families privacy and peace. The Delaware Federation has submitted a proposal to the Secretary of the Air Force of providing this garden at the estimated cost of $125,000. Rodney Robinson, a prominent Landscape Architect has drawn a plan for the garden.
The Delaware Federation of Garden Clubs is soliciting contributions to cover the cost of this garden. They are a nonprofit and therefore all donations are fully tax deductable.
If you would like to help the DFGC provide this Memorial Garden at the Dover Air Force Base as a special gift of enduring significance to the nation and to the "Families of the Fallen" send you donation to Delaware Federation of Garden Clubs, Memorial Garden, PO Box 17, Greenwood, Delaware 19950.
