THE SCARBOROUGH GARDEN CLUB

 The Scarborough Garden Club was organized and became federated in 1975.  Active membership ranges between 40-50 and new members are always welcome.  Regular meetings are held the third Monday of each month at 1:00PM, September through June, with the exception of January, at St. Nicholas Church, 350 US Route 1, Scarborough.

The club's objectives are to cultivate an interest in and knowledge of horticulture, gardening, flower arranging and landscape design; to beautify our community; to preserve our natural resources; and to support the goals of the state and national garden clubs.

Ongoing projects include the following:

  • Maintaining the Hunnewell House Circle and Herb Gardens

  • Decorating holiday wreaths

  • Funding Scholarship for a Scarborough Resident Entering College in a Horticulture Related Field

  • Overseeing a white flower/shrub Garden of Hope Memorial Garden at the Radiation Therapy entrance on the MMC Scarborough Campus

  • Providing mums for the Town Library

  • Participating in the Sponsor a Tree Program by donating a tree for the Scarborough Memorial Park

  • Sponsoring and Conducting Unified Project - Children's Gardens SPROUTS at Camp Ketcha

  • Supporting conservation with donations to :  Friends of Scarborough Marsh, Scarborough Land Trust and Scarborough River Wildlife Sanctuary

Club Activities:

  • Green Thumb Award ~ Recognition of outstanding Scarborough gardeners

  • Plant Sale and White Elephant Sale.  The next one is Saturday June 7, 2008 at the Hunnewell House.

  • Garden Tour on third Saturday in July, every other year.  Next one is in July 2009.
