The Boothbay Region Garden Club celebrated 75 years of service to the Boothbay Region on August 9, 2006 at the Boothbay Commons.   With 144 members we participate in civic development by planting and maintaining gardens around the Gazebo on the Common, the Civil War Monument garden, and the Butterfly Garden in the Memorial Park.  With funds from a National Garden Club grant and donations from the Boothbay Civic Association we have begun a long term beautification project within the Boothbay Memorial Park. We have restored and designed an Armillary Garden within the Park and have also planted trees and shrubs. We also provide summer window boxes and winter wreaths for public buildings in the community.

The club cleans and maintains the Safe Havens Garden at St. Andrews Village, makes holiday designs for Togas Hospital, Meals on Wheels, the Boothbay Green, St. Andrews Hospital and the Gregory Wing, and other outreach activities.

We provide floral arrangements for the High School Alumni Banquet, critique floral arrangements at General Meetings, and hold very popular flower design workshops during the winter.

In 2006 Boothbay Region Garden Club donated $2,000 to the YMCA Camper ship program.  In 2005, the club donated $5,000 to the Boothbay Region Student Aid Fund to perpetuate our scholarships for Boothbay Region High School students who meet our requirements concerning study of ecology, horticulture, marine biology, conservation, earth sciences or botany.  There have been 20 recipients of these scholarships since 1975.

New members are always welcomed to our club.  For information contact Pat McMurry.
