GCFM Judges Council

Tuesday November 16, 2010

Longfellow's Greenhouse, Manchester, ME

Chairman Grant called the meeting to order at 9:40am.

Thanks to Frinsko, Grant and Oliver for hospitality.

A discussion was held on the $500.00 deposit that was given to Village by the Sea. We have until May to apply it. Oliver asked if we could move the March program to that venue. Frinsko suggested that we should get a speaker and charge for the program. Grant suggested that Judges Council could do a design workshop. Each judge doing the workshop would do one design , explaining her thought process, mechanics, etc. This format has worked well in the past and would be less costly. Perhaps we can incorporate our May Judges Council meeting along with the workshop.

We took a break in the meeting so that Shelley Harding from Longfellow Greenhouses could present a program on Holiday and house plant care. It was very informative and we had a question and answer session so that we could ask about our own plants.

The meeting resumed after the program with a planning session for the March 22nd meeting and program by Robin Murphy.

The secretary will do publicity for the meeting. It will be put in the Gardeners Voice and sent to Stroudwater District Club Presidents. Also in the Portland Press Herald Calendar.

A Tea/Luncheon will follow the program. Judges are asked to bring tea sandwiches and/or finger sweets. Members that were present listed what they would bring.

Foster has 20 table cloths and also will bring napkins, dollies, three desserts and silver tea service.

Atwell has a roll of white plastic for the design tables and is making smoked salmon sandwiches. She will also bring money for making change.

Mowbray will bring Lemon Bread and Pecan Puffs.

Grant will make date and cream cheese and chicken salad sandwiches, and bring a silver tea service.

Frinsko egg salad sandwiches and a dessert. Also has or will supply coffee, teabags, cream, sugar and lemon.

Burrill will do shrimp sandwiches.

Oliver will bring ham salad sandwiches and macaroons.

We are planning for 80 people. Judges who were not at the meeting are asked to let the Secretary know what they will be bringing. That way we will have a good mix of tea sandwiches and sweets. We will be able to enter the church at 9:00am.

Chairman Grant received a request from Mary Blackstone asking if Judges Council would do a display for the GCFM Annual Convention in Castine in June. Atwell has four pedestals and Bush, Foster, Frinsko and Atwell will do designs.

Frinsko brought a schedule for the World Flower Show which will be held June 15-19, 2011 at the Seaport World Trade Center, Mass. See page 16 of the Fall 2010 National Gardener. Tickets are $30.00. Let Chairman Grant know if you are interested in going. Maybe we can get enough people to fill a bus.

Roll Call: Present: Atwell, Burrill, Bush, Foster, Frinsko, Grant, Mowbray, Oliver. Excused: Donnelly, Glynn, Harrington, Hosmer, Leonard, Linney, Longley. Absent: Estabrook, Tonge, Traiser, Wright, Wiley.

Treasurer's Report: Beginning Balance: $675.53. Dues: $105.00 Expenses: $0 Balance as of November 16, 2010, $781.53.
