Club Information The Longfellow Garden Club was created in 1924 to promote and maintain the Longfellow Garden on the campus of the Maine Historical Society in downtown Portland, ME. The Colonial Revival Garden was completely replanted in 2009 following construction on the Brown Memorial Library. The garden is located behind the Wadsworth-Longfellow House, the childhood home of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Information about the Garden, including an illustrated Plant Identification Guide, may be found on the Maine Historical Society website at

In addition, we collaborate with Portland Parks and Recreation to maintain the Longfellow Arboretum in Payson Park. The mission of the arboretum is to provide the public with an opportunity to observe unusual, labeled tree specimens not commonly found in this area of New England. A brochure about the Arboretum may be found at

The club meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, from 10:00 - noon, generally at Woodfords Congregation Church, 202 Woodford St, Portland, ME. During the summer months we work bi-weekly in the Longfellow Garden and monthly in the Arboretum.
