For a "Pure Maine" experience, you’ll want to start planning your trip to the 2018 GCFM Convention, Celebrating the Summer Garden, at Sebasco Harbor Resort in Phippsburg, June 18th to the 20th. Planned by the five clubs of the Medomak District (Bath, Boothbay Region, Camden, Topsham and Wiscasset), this Convention promises to provide a unique and relaxing experience for all who attend. Monday June 18, 2018
12:00 pm – 5:00 pm Early Registration (first floor, Main Deck Lobby). Pick up your information packets containing tickets for the events you’ll be attending, your nametag and a fabulous goodie bag loaded with surprises from the Medomak District Merchants. Check out the raffle and silent auction, garden-inspired treasures donated by local and national businesses, and don’t forget to see the GCFM Exhibits!
12:00 pm–5:00 pm Shop in Bath, Tour Maine Maritime Museum (discount tickets). See packet of information for other Points of Interest.
5:00 pm–6:30 pm State and National Life Member High Tea (Gazebo). This is open to all those who have become State and/or National Life Members – or who sign up to become a member at the convention. (In case of inclement weather, held in Cornelius Room.)
5:30 pm–7:00 pm Standard Flower Show "Maine Vacationland” sponsored by The GCFM Judges Council. Learn about flower shows and new floral designs listed in the NGC Handbook for Flower Shows. Highlight your designs and growing skills. (Clipper Room)

8:00 am–5:00pm Registration (first floor, Main Deck Lobby). Pick up your information packets containing tickets for the events you’ll be attending, your nametag and a fabulous goodie bag loaded with surprises from the Medomak District Merchants.
8:00 am–5:00pm Silent Auction, Raffles, On-site Vendors, & Exhibits (Board Room, Cornelius Room and Main Deck.) Garden-themed vendors will also be available at several of the gardens on the tour. (Closed for lunch 12:00pm-1:00pm.)
8:00 am–5:00 pm Sebasco Trails Scavenger Hunt
8:00 am–5:00 pm Standard Flower Show, "Maine Vacationland" sponsored by the GCFM Judges Council. Learn about flower shows and new floral designs listed in the NGC Handbook for Flower Shows. Highlight your designs and growing skills. (Clipper Room)
9:00 am–9:45 am Hypertufa Demonstration (under the Gazebo). Charlene Sassi, Garden Club of Wiscasset member and potter, will show us how to make beautiful garden containers from hypertufa, a material that has an ancient hand-hewn quality.
10:00 am–4:30 pm Garden Tour of a variety of lovely gardens along the Phippsburg Peninsula representing our theme "Celebrating the Summer Garden” including a member’s garden which was featured in DownEast magazine. A tour map and descriptions will be available in your welcome packet if you have registered for this event.
2:30 pm–4:00 pm BoomerTECH Adventures. Take better flora and fauna pictures with your smartphones and tablets concentrating on composition, lighting close-up shots vs. distance when to use HDR, and using reflections to create interesting images…mini-lessons inside and practice outside and back in to do some editing and sharing. Meet in the Main Deck. Sebasco is a stunning setting for photography. (Limited to 30 participants)
4:45 pm–5:30 pm GCFM Board of Directors Meeting (Main Deck). Board members may wish to dress for dinner as the meeting will adjourn just prior to the Cocktail Hour.
5:30 pm–6:15 pm Cocktail Reception with Paul Parent (Cornelius Room, cash bar). Time to peruse the Silent Auction, Raffle Tables and Vendors.
6:30 pm–9:00 pm Dinner and Keynote Speaker Paul Parent speaking on "Ideas for Colorful Summer Gardens”. Among other horticultural endeavors, Paul has hosted "Paul Parent Garden Club” every Sunday morning on his syndicated talk show for 34 years. Paul is probably responsible for more successful flower and vegetable beds, lawns and landscaping projects in all of the New England states than any other one regional garden authority.

7:00 am–9:00 am Completion of the Scavenger Hunt through the Sebasco Harbor trails.
8:00 am–9:00 am Registration (first floor, Main Deck Lobby).
8:00 am–11:00 am Silent Auctions, Raffles and Exhibits (Board and the Cornelius Rooms).
8:15 am–9:00 am Witches, Turkeys, and Reindeer—Fall and Winter Container Gardening (Main Deck). Nancy Hargroves, NGC President will share ideas for extending ordinary summer container gardening into year-round container gardening with creative holiday highlights.
9:00 am–12:00 pm GCFM Annual Membership Meeting (Main Deck)Welcome NGC President Nancy Hargroves to Maine. Come hear what’s new in the NGC. If you’ve been selected as a Club Delegate (for voting on GCFM business items), be sure you’ve notified the Convention Registrar and have your delegate card with you (found in your registration packet). The meeting breaks at 10:00 am to allow time to check out of your rooms and resumes at 10:30.
12:00 pm–1:00 pm Buffet Luncheon (Cornelius Room).
1:00 pm–2:00 pm Keynote Speaker Marta McDowell will speak about the evolution of the gardens of the White House taken from her book "All the Presidents’ Gardens”: Madison’s Cabbages to Kennedy’s Roses—How the White House Grounds Have Grown with America. Experience Marta’s wit and insight into our gardening past and an entertaining look at the gardens of America’s premier residence, horticultural aspirations, trends, and history. Marta will be available to sign her books after the meeting.
