SUMMARY:Open Garden #1 - Orono - Lenore Tipping & Tom Spitz
DESCRIPTION:If you’re a “Hosta-holic”\, you won’t want to miss this one!  Veazie Garden Club member\, Lenore Tipping\, and her husband\, Tom Spitz\, have gardened on this site of a former logging camp for 30 years. Their garden sits along the shore of the Stillwater River\, not far from the University of Maine campus\, and is shaded with very large trees. Lenore says there are 350 varieties of hostas planted\, as well as many shade perennials. They visualize the garden as a series of garden “rooms”\, each with a distinct personality. Some of the things to look for are a Moon Gate\, an Asian-style walkway through the ferns\, “Grandpa’s bridge” over a small creek\, and an herb garden. \nCome as you are – no registration is needed.  A $10.00 donation is suggested.  Bring a folding chair and your lunch. Lenore will give a presentation on hostas at 11 a.m.\, and there will be a floral demonstration featuring hostas at 1 p.m. \nIMPORTANT NOTE:\nPLEASE CARPOOL AS THERE IS LIMITED STREET PARKING. Parking will be available at the University of Maine Steam Plant Parking Lot\, about ½ mile from the garden\, with a shuttle running back and forth. Drivers are asked to drop off their passengers at the garden and then proceed to the parking lot. Veazie Garden Club members will be there to direct you and the shuttle will return you to the garden.
