The Boothbay Garden Club invites clubs from the Medomak District to their Annual District Meeting at the Bigelow Laboratories for Ocean Sciences in East Boothbay, on Monday, May 4th. The speaker will be Catherine Mitchell, who will speak about studying phytoplankton using ocean color satellites.  Phytoplankton, or
microalgae, supply about half of the world’s oxygen, and constitute the base for several food chains.  Although they are outside our usual concept of ‘horticulture’, they are extremely important and are well deserving of study.  Clubs should mail their attendance roster to Sandy Abernathy, at [email protected], and collect all registration monies in advance and send by April 18th (to avoid late fee) to the Medomak District Treasurer, Beth Maxwell, 10 Union St., Wiscasset, ME  04578.
