Open Garden #2 – Barbara Furey’s Garden – Rockport and Merryspring Nature Center – Camden
July 21, 2025 at 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Join members from around the state for Open Garden #2 of 2025! These two gardens are close together, but not within walking distance.
10:00 – 11:00 a.m. – Take a self-guided tour of Barbara Furey’s Garden in Rockport. Situated on 12 acres, it was mostly a blank canvas when she and her husband moved there in 1962. Now, 63 years later, you’ll see what was accomplished! Barbara loves color – no all white gardens! Each small garden has its own personality.
11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – Barbara will share the story of her gardens and how they evolved over time.
12:00 – 1:00 p.m. – Merryspring Nature Center 30 Conway Road, Camden
Bring your own lunch! There is seating for 30, but bring a folding chair to be sure to get a seat.
Merryspring Nature Center is a 66-acre nature center founded in 1974, by Mary Ellen Ross. It is a nonprofit, member supported organization open daily from dawn to dusk. There are perennial gardens, an herb garden, a native species garden, a vernal pool, a fairy village, and 4 miles of trails through meadows and forest. They offer many educational talks, classes, and workshops throughout the year.
1 – 3:00 p.m. – Flower arranging demonstration by John Fromer, Director, followed by tour of their wonderful gardens.
No registration is required, however, a $10 donation is suggested.
